The Estimator / Quoting Engineer is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for gas line weldments and precision fabrication projects, primarily serving the semiconductor industry. This role plays a critical part in quotation, sourcing, and planning activities by translating customer requirements and engineering data into reliable cost models.

Job Description

  1. Estimation & Technical Analysis
    • Review, audit, and summarize customer specifications, drawings, and technical requirements.
    • Analyze blueprints, BOMs, and customer documentation to prepare accurate quotations.
    • Develop detailed cost estimates for mechanical parts, subassemblies, and complete systems.
    • Propose manufacturing processes, material sizing, and outsourced operations to reduce costs and improve lead time.
    • Analyze RFQs from customers and suppliers to identify key cost drivers.
    • Build and maintain cost models, including "what-if" scenarios for management review.
    • Reconcile estimated costs against actual costs and support continuous cost accuracy improvement.
    • Utilize company systems to create product structures, routes, and cost breakdowns.
    • Ensure all quotations comply with customer statements of work and internal standards.
    • Conduct technical assessments and audits to support accurate and competitive pricing.
  2. Cross-Functional Coordination & Communication
    • Collaborate closely with engineering, planning, production, supply chain, sales, and finance teams.
    • Validate manufacturing assumptions, material selections, and assembly methods with relevant stakeholders.
    • Work directly with suppliers to explore cost-reduction opportunities and capability improvements.
    • Lead and participate in quotation, pricing, and technical review meetings.
    • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to internal teams.
    • Ensure timely and accurate responses to quotation-related emails and technical inquiries.
    • Coordinate with global teams (factory, sales, purchasing) to resolve issues and align proposals.
    • Gather cross-departmental inputs to optimize costing methodologies and design-for-cost guidelines.

The Successful Applicant

  1. Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
    • 2 - 3 years of experience in cost estimation or manufacturing engineering.
    • Experience in semiconductor equipment, precision machining, or contract manufacturing is preferred.
  2. Technical & Professional Skills
    • Strong understanding of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, macros).
    • Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple RFQs or projects under tight deadlines.
    • Strong English communication and presentation skills, including reporting to senior management.
    • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and cost estimation tools is a plus.
    • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
