The Head of Legal is responsible for ensuring that the organization operates in full compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory obligations, as well as adhering to corporate governance and company secretarial standards. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting the board and executive leadership in maintaining transparency, managing legal risks, and ensuring that all statutory requirements are met.

Job Description

  • Lead the development and implementation of robust legal and compliance frameworks to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee all legal and regulatory matters, maintaining effective engagement with relevant ministries, regulators, and external legal advisors.
  • Provide timely, pragmatic legal advice to senior leadership and cross-functional teams on a broad range of legal and business issues.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, and develop strategic solutions to address complex challenges.
  • Support the organization in maintaining compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations through regular reviews and legal compliance initiatives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, contracts, and agreements to safeguard the organization's interests.
  • Establish and enhance internal legal processes, policies, and controls to improve efficiency and ensure best practice.
  • Provide guidance on disputes, litigation strategy, and legal risk exposure, coordinating with external counsel where required.
  • Promote a strong culture of legal awareness and compliance across the business through training and advisory support.
  • Monitor changes in relevant legislation and regulatory developments, ensuring the organization remains compliant and well-positioned to respond.

The Successful Applicant

  • Qualified lawyer with relevant in-house legal experience aligned with the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Proven track record of working in complex, global organizational structures with exposure to international regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with senior stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise at the senior management level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions within a complex business environment.
  • Proactive, analytical mindset with sound judgment and the confidence to challenge and provide constructive input.
  • Experience within the banking, financial services, or a similarly regulated industry is highly preferred and will be considered a strong advantage.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality legal advice in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Strong commitment to ethics, integrity, and professional standards.
  • Ability to design and implement structured, process-driven approaches to legal and compliance matters.
